Community guidelines

Understand what content is allowed on Product Hunt and why posts and comments may be removed from the platform.

Content moderation

Posts, comments, discussions, and other user-submitted content may be subject to removal if they violate Product Hunt's guidelines. The platform maintains these guidelines to keep the community safe, meaningful, and focused on discovering innovative products.

Posts, comments, or reviews may also be flagged or hidden temporarily as part of the moderation process. Repeated or severe violations may lead to account suspension.

Spam

Content submitted with the primary purpose of promotion, manipulation, or disruption will be removed. This includes:

  • Comments used to advertise unrelated services or products
  • Vote manipulation, including coordinated voting or engagement schemes
  • Repeated submissions of the same or substantially similar products
  • Launches designed solely to drive traffic without meaningful content
  • Abuse of reporting tools to target other users or products
  • Reviews flagged for containing spam links or promotional content not aligned with the platform's goals

Product Hunt reserves the right to remove any content that undermines the integrity of the platform.

Language

Product Hunt is a global community, and the platform values the perspectives people bring from around the world. However, to keep things consistent and accessible for users, all submissions must be in English.

Off-topic content

Product Hunt is designed to surface the latest mobile apps, websites, hardware projects, and tech creations. Products outside these areas of interest may be removed. Examples include:

  • Deal sites
  • Courses
  • Events and limited-time programs
  • Blog posts and articles
  • Lists and directories
  • Services
  • Guides

If your product falls into one of these categories, it may not be featured on the homepage, though it can still be submitted and remain visible in the "All" feed.

Offensive content

Content containing threatening, violent, or abusive language, or content that directly or indirectly attacks individuals or groups, will be removed.

Review guidelines

If you're leaving a review or comment on a product:

  • Keep your feedback constructive and respectful.
  • Avoid spam links or promotional content unrelated to the product.
  • Focus on the product itself, not on attacking the maker or other community members.
  • Be authentic and genuine in your feedback.

Before you post

Before submitting content to Product Hunt, review these guidelines:

  1. Is it on-topic? - Does your product or comment align with Product Hunt's focus on tech products and innovations?
  2. Is it authentic? - Are you being genuine and authentic, or trying to manipulate engagement?
  3. Is it respectful? - Does your content avoid attacking individuals or groups?
  4. Is it valuable? - Does your content add value to the community and foster organic engagement?

Focus on fostering organic engagement rather than relying on artificial activity. Genuine community interaction is what makes Product Hunt valuable for everyone.
